myReader 2
myReader2 is the world's first low vision auto-reader.
Designed to benefit people who have eye conditions such
as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts
and glaucoma myReader2 promises to revolutionize the low
vision market forever. |
Additional detail for myReader2
myReader2 enables those with low vision to go
beyond just reading bills and writing shopping lists, and
to once again read their favorite books with ease. You quickly
take images of book or magazine pages and myReader2 rearranges
the text onscreen. You choose how you prefer the text to appear,
making reading easy again.
Breakthrough multi-page storage capability,
improved page processing and low contrast improvements, together
with user interface improvements allow even greater freedom
and comfort for sustained reading.
- Easy page viewing. With myReader2, the user can
simply capture a page image, then pan around the image
onscreen - no need to move an X-Y table around. All with
flexible features like image resizing, contrast and color
controls.
- "Auto-reader" capability. myReader2 can process
the captured image and convert it into a flexible stream
of words. This allows myReader2 to display the text in
a single column, a single row or a word at a time - no
panning left to right, up and down to read.
- Compact, flexible, attractive unit. myReader2
has the same size and shape as the original myReader -
a single, compact, folding unit with a built-in color
LCD screen. myReader2 is easy to transport to and from
school, home and office.
myReader2 New Features
myReader2 adds a breakthrough new feature and
three key improvements:
- Multi-page storage. The breakthrough feature
in myReader2 is multi-page storage. Users can capture
up to 10 pages, then read through them as quickly or slowly
as desired. An additional three reference pages can also
be stored and used again and again.
- Easier user interface. myReader2 has a simplified
user interface, based on extensive hands-on user testing,
that makes the most-needed features easier to access.
- Improved page processing. myReader's key capability
is recognizing columns and word breaks on a page to convert
all of the text into a single stream. myReader2 improves
on this, handling a wider variety of pages quickly and
easily.
- Low contrast improvements. myReader2 does a better
job of handling low contrast paper/print combinations
found in many publications.
Cast your eye over these advanced myReader2
features:
- Full page document capture: myReader2's full
page document capture makes automatic reading possible.
With one touch of a button myReader2 captures an image
of whatever is on the viewing table and rearranges it
to fit on the screen according to your preferences. When
reading with myReader2 you only have to scroll in one
direction - no longer are you required to have to move
back and forth trying to find the last line you were reading.
Once text is captured it can be presented according to
your specific preference. Choose text to be presented
as a neatly wrapped paragraph (column layout), as a continuous
line (row layout) and one word at a time (word layout)
- examples of these preferences are shown above.
- Improved Navigation: myReader2 has no XY table.
All navigation is done using the control panel. Using
this users are able to navigate around a document without
having to physically move the document. Unlike other products
myReader2 brings the words to the user. This reduces the
mental and physical fatigue that people often experience
when using a device fitted with an XY table.
- Automatic scrolling: With myReader2 you can set
the text to scroll automatically at the touch of a dial,
while maintaining the control of the speed. If you prefer
you can control the scrolling manually or step through
the text a screen at a time.
- Built-in 15" LCD screen: myReader2 operates
at 75Hz so the super sharp LCD screen is flicker free
and radiation free. For added comfort, the monitors height
and tilt angle can be adjusted to suit the users requirements.
By having a built-in LCD monitor and no XY table, myReader2
only takes up a limited amount of space.
- Simple controls: myReader2 is operated via a
separate control panel, which is clearly labeled and easy
to use. The control panel is designed to allow users to
operate myReader2 for long periods. The control panel
allows users to: adjust the speed they are reading at,
manually navigate through a document, advance through
the text a screen at a time, change display modes, select
a new document, change the size and colors on the screen,
set margins and access menus.
- Greater transportability: In three easy steps
myReader2 folds up into a compact unit. Weighing only
22lb/10kg and including an integrated carry handle, myReader2
can be picked up and easily carried from room to room
with ease.
- Retaining the best: As well as incorporating
all the functionality outlined above, myReader2 retains
some of the best features of a standard video magnifier,
including: a "live" mode for handwriting, viewing pictures
and other manual tasks, a range a contrasting color combinations
for presenting text, autofocus and split-screen PC operation.
- Design Expertise: SmartSense is the technology
powering myReader2. Developed by Pulse Data International's
Research and Development team, SmartSense enables myReader2
to recognize, rewrap and control the text in documents
it scans.
One year manufacturer's warranty.
myReader case study shows benefits
Visio Het Loo Erf, is a rehabilitation centre
for visually impaired people in the Netherlands performed
an interesting case study to learn more about the benefits
or an auto-reader. The centre compared myReader to a CCTV
magnifier - devices that magnify pages, but don't capture
an image nor reformat text.
CCTV magnifiers are good for tasks such as filling
out forms, for looking at pictures, and for spot reading such
as reading a prescription bottle. But sustained reading is
difficult, with users having to move an X-Y table with the
document left and right, up and down as they read.
Three case studies revealed:
- Improvements in comfort. All respondents found
myReader more comfortable to use than a CCTV - no nausea,
sore muscles or eyestrain.
- Improvements in reading speed. Reading speed
improved significantly, almost tripling in one case.
- Improvements in comprehension. All users understood
more; one went from almost no comprehension to 100% correct
on a follow-up test.
- An increase in time spent reading. With a CCTV
magnifier, ten minutes was found to be too long for some
users. With myReader, one user went on reading for two
hours.
The case studies supported the verdict of thousands
of users that myReader - and now, myReader2, especially with
multi-page storage capability - remains the best tool for
sustained reading.
